About the Tarot Study Group

This is a drop-in group of Tarot enthusiasts that meets once a week, facilitated by Nicholas O'Donnell. The meetings will consist of focused open Tarot discussion, Tarot meditations, Tarot theory and theosophy, Tarot reading, Tarot history, Tarot symbolism, etc. The intention is to deepen Tarot understanding and build a local Tarot community. Tarot practice usually occurs after the formal meeting has ended.

This is a non-denominational Tarot Study Group. Through building community, study and meditation with the Tarot, we can better understand each other and ourselves. The Tarot is a key to the subconscious, just as are all intuitive and mystical tools. This group is intended to provide a support group and community for those who so chose to use this intuitive, metaphysical, and mystical device.

Each meeting will consist of a focused topic of discussion; the first 22 meetings will be focused on the Major Arcana, with open discussion focused on anything associated with the card of the week. Ultimately members of the group may find the passion and drive to have the desire to present to the group themselves. For example, if the focus is the Empress, a group member may volunteer to prepare a presentation of the Empress from their perspective to better express their spiritual, emotional, and intellectual thoughts. These presentations can be done with a PowerPoint, creating interactive activities, meditations, music, art, etc. — any form of creative expression that the group member so chooses to express.

After the open discussion and/or presentations, any attendees who have questions about the topic or any topic about Tarot may ask. After questions, a 25-minute mindfulness meditation that is focused on the Tarot will conclude the formal meeting. The members of the group may stay and converse after the formal meeting is concluded. If any insight or arisings happen during the meditation, this is a time for members to share their experiences.

EXAMPLE OF STUDY TOPICS & QUESTIONS:

The Major Arcana cards in the Tarot are traditionally assigned to the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet. The Tarot doesn't follow the numbers of the Hebrew alphabet but rather the sounds. The Fool is labeled with the letter Aleph(א), in Hebrew the letter is pronounced almost silently. The Fool in the Tarot is also labeled the number 0. The elemental association with the Fool is Air, the Intellect.

What does the Number 0 mean to you? How do you physically represent the number 0? How does the number 0 make you feel? If you could represent 0 besides the symbol 0, how would you express it?

How do you define the Hebrew letter Aleph? How does it relate to 0?

The artwork of The Fool
What does the Yellow sky represent to you? How does it make you feel? What does the Sun represent to you? How does it make you feel? Where is The Fool going? Where is the Fool coming from?

How is Air or the Intellect represented in the artwork of the Fool? What does the white rose mean to you?
What does the white dog mean to you?

Take some time to explore and meditate on this information and questions to bring deeper discussion to the group. This is a community-building exercise to better get to know ourselves and the Tarot through each other so participation and sharing is required! This is a sacred space where we will only show encouragement for creativity, love and unity. There are no right or wrong answers, only expressions of creative Will!

As stated, this is a sacred study group. We believe that by bringing knowledge, wisdom, creativity, encouragement, perspective, and community to each other we are bringing the group closer to the Source of existence.

If you need some resources for research and reading, please reach out as there is a plethora of material on Tarot and it's easy to get lost.

Please email or call Nick if anyone has any questions or concerns about the reflections or information presented. Let's have some fun and express our creative esoteric Will!
